A celebration of Scarborough’s cultural diversity, Applespice Restaurant is known throughout the GTA as the spot to get all your mouth-watering Sri Lankan cooking, but with a delicious modern twist. Our menu draws from the rich culinary heritage and experiences that Chef Sue Muthukumar has come to be known for; delicious creamy pastas infused with the spices and flavours of her upbringing, nostalgic kotthus that hit the spot just right, and beautiful Lamprais nestled under a banana leaf.
Chef Sue has always been inspired by the fresh flavours and seasonal products around her, but her use of high-quality ingredients was cemented when her mother became severely ill. Putting everything on hold, Sue nursed her mother back to health through food, educating herself along the way in whole food and plant-based diets, as well as getting her diploma at George Brown College. Using this knowledge, and after a successful career cooking out West, Sue opened up Applespice Restaurant with her mother and husband, a driving force behind the scenes. Together with a staff that feels more like a family, we are proud to serve the Scarborough, Markham and GTA our Grandmother’s famous curries, pastas, short eats, fried chicken, and vegan options.
